To Market!

This going to be quite the post as I have encountered so much, and so many people in the past 3 days, so bear with me...

OK, Saturday at market. Not so great, sort of wanted to fall off the face of the earth, felt like I was being sucker punched all day long. I didn't even want to go back

Sunday, we (my mum and me) went in the late afternoon, and we decided to look at the actual quilt show first, and it was so nice! First of all the quilts are always incredible, but there wasn't anyone there. I didn't have to fight any one to get a good picture, and I didn't have to wait for a crowd to leave so I could see something... this was not typical international quilt festival traffic. It was just me and the quilts. DREAM! It was almost like being in a museum on a Tuesday around lunch. It was perfect. So here are some of my favs

This was called "Stripes--Roses--", by Hisae Yoshida of Japan. I am not a huge rose person but I thought this was great, because they almost look nautical, and I am a big nautical person, that and almost everything I wear and or own is striped. I am just all about it, and I am all about this adapted log cabin

This was a really cool piece called "Dare to Know," by Claudia Helmer of Germany

this beautiful piece was by Kathy York of Austin, Texas. It's called "Vertigo". Someone from her quilt group was telling us that she used all hand dyed fabrics to achieve the really brilliant colors. That and the little yellow bird at the bottom is afraid of heights.. hence the name Vertigo. Obviously.

Along with my Mom, we met so many great people. It was really nice to finally meet Holly, and her crew. We discovered that at Lake House Dry Goods, it is in fact, "all about the food."

I also met the lovely Gina of Quilters Buzz, and Threaded Pear. I have to say she could easily be one of my new favorite people. Before market closed on Monday she took me around to all the art directors I wanted to meet, all the peeps I need to know and she introduced me. The low down is, when I get a fabric deal, I fill the debt with fat quarters.

Gina also introduced me to Heather Bailey and Laura Gunn who were totally cool. We were all gawking over the Alexander Henry Wonder Shop! Their new stuff is completely outrageous. In a really good way

And we met the Smith's! Annie of Simple Arts, and her daughter Kirsten. They were both so great. What fun! It was just really nice to connect with people, and get a real education about the goings on of this industry.

also, I might do an internship with Holly, and I am designing Penny Sturges logo for Quilts Illustrated. How cool is that? I am so completely excited for everything that happened this past weekend. There is so much to say, but quite a bit will have to wait... but just know, some really good things are happening, and I hope you like flying objects made of paper, printed elsewhere. It all involved a circle and a chance meeting with Diana McClun and Laura Nownes, and Dale Flemming.

OK and just as a travel update: for those of you who think I am still going to Paris, I am not going to Paris anymore.

for those of you who know that I am not going to Paris and think that I am going to Spain instead, this information is no longer valid

for those of you who are thoroughly confused, I am going to Brussels Belgium. We just kind of picked it today, and I went and bought a book and it turns out it's the Art Nouveau capital of the world. Things could hardly be better right now. Oh, I know how they could be better. The Airline could find my phone.

i-do again

we are working on having our patterns distributed. Here is the pattern cover for i-do.

I try not to work on Sundays just as a rule, and I didn't really do anything from my list, but I did get to paint a little with my friend Nate. He is in a mixed media experimentation class and working on different stuff using acrylic... well it just made me feel like painting. So we painted last night. I went through a bunch of sketch books and this is what I came up with. When I paint I always give myself objectives

These were they:

1. use light colors (almost pastels) as I do not really care for pastels and so I have a hard time using them
2. create depth
3. simplfy the figure
4. use patterns

I think these girls could make a great line of fabric, especially the pagodas in the background.

Ok I made the list today of everything that I have to get done before I leave for Home, Market, Paris. I split it up into groups so it would be more managable

What to Bring Home: i Do, My CityScape 3-4 Books as gifts and sales, prints, passport, jump drive, rain coat.

wowowow. I was really happy to cross something off that list, but the evening is young and there is much to do. I am so excited to go home. More excited to go home than to Paris. I will get to pet the cats and sleep on my favorite couch, and watch movies with my Mom while she sews. I got her the newest Pride and Prejudice for her birthday, so that will be nice to watch. I really do reccomend it, and the music is so nice to work to. I will probably sew some text blocks together while we do.

Can I just say really quick how much I love making books? I sent out an order the other day and it was so fulfilling to pack up these books that I had so much love for, and the idea of them meaning so much to someone else! Oh I just love it.

and now for a jumble of pictures that I like for different reasons that have absolutely no pertinence to anything previously stated

one other thing before I really have to run. We have decided as a family this year to only give eachother stuff for Christmas that we have made. We all have been given these great gifts and a capacity to learn and use them, so Christmas will be sans the shopping this year. I am actually so excited to see what everyone makes. I think it's a really fun idea

early in the morning

It has been a little while!

Things have been a little crazy here. Melissa my little sister broke her elbow last week and I had to be the mom so I lost an entire week of work. I really needed to clean up the line of patterns that I designed, so that I could make a book using those patterns, to show people... didn't happen YET. So that is really like a months worth of work that I get to do in the next couple of days. I do love a challange. I've also been finishing some books... working on a print every once in a while. I am just generally behind, and I go home next week and all of these things must be completed. So, I will just be praying and working every second that I have to get everything done... this would be lightyears easier and fairly complete already if I had my own computer... i'll get there eventually.

I have been working on a new print. As I have mentioned before, I really enjoy dry point, and non acid methods. This plate was done with dry point and a mezzo tint. The funniest thing though... we got this new ink in called midnight blue, and for some strange reason it smells Blue! Isn't that funny when things smell like a color? It is the only ink that smells that way... not that I recommend that you go smelling inks and keep a chart or diagram on how they compare to eachother..

it really is fall. There are some trees out in front of a church building across the street from where I live, and one day one of the trees was completely yellow, and the next day all the leaves were winding up and down the street and the tree was empty... also pomagranites are in the store again. The best price I have seen yet is $1.50 each.

it's snowing!

OH MY GOODNESS!

I looked out my window this morning, because I figured that it might have snowed a little. It rained a lot last night, and the sky looked a little green. At home that would have meant... a hurricane... or a tornado. Here it means Blizzard! UGGG. Oh well, what are you going to do? The only trouble is that it's only the beginning of October.

A super night!

last night my sister Ashlee was playing in Pocatello, so we drove down from Rexburg to see her. It was so great! She sounded really good, and we got to see our Aunt Shirley and our cousin Tami. She played in a pub/ resturaunt called the Portneuf Brewery. It was just a lot of fun.

It was a really interesting thing. We have never really been apart, and I guess that we are finally realizing how much we need and love each other. I think it's easy to take for granted what you might have as a family, as a unit, together all the time... but apart then it really starts to make sense how much you need each other. I love my sisters so much, and it was so nice to be with them.

Busy Bee

I have been really really really working hard on some books, and therefore I haven't really been able to print anything and that has been a little bit of a bummer... seeing as how I have an entire edition of "when it rains, it pours" to print. But I just had to work on something else. So I started a linolium block of a new pattern that I have designed. I am REALLY REALLY excited about it. It is super beyond, make you slightly ill retro, but I wish I could have it printed on everything. I think it would make great fabric. More work to do.
