Sorry that I have not posted in a while, and will not be able to until Saturday. I am up agaisnt midterms and there are kicking my butt.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Oh and over the weekend I became and Aunt. My brother is a Dad and that is really different

like I said, hopefully I will be back in action come this weekend. I wish I could go home and see my family and that baby.

Ok la h o m a.....

One of my frequent clients, is the Theatre Department. I get jobs to do posters for the shows. This is usually fun, and cool, because I get to do research and maybe try some new painting technique or something. Well, the poster that I am working on right now is for Oklahoma! I only put the exclamation point because it is the title, not because I wanted to exclimate it.

Up until just a week ago I was really excited about finishing this project. I went out with a friend, we took some great pictures, I learned to like the play itself (via the 1999 Royal Theatre Version starring Hugh Jackman), I get along really well with the director and we had discussed a vision and we were both there, all these good things happened in my journey to producing this poster. Then in it's nearly final state, after Richard and I agreed on a compostion, I get the info that has to go on the poster... you know usually it's just this play is being produced under the permission of... blah blah blah... you give the playwrite credit, you give the dates... well this is Oklahoma! And all of your artistic rights have just been stripped from you. This is what the Rodgers and Hammerstein licsencing company sent us:

So here is what I think. I think that credit should be given where credit is due. Yes, Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote the show, yes, it is called OKLAHOMA, but why on earth is Agnes de Mille still getting credit for the dances that we are not even doing.

What kind of Hierarchy are those percentages. They might know how to write a hit musical that is celebrating it's 60th anniversary this year, but they do NOT know how to design a poster.

all tied up

So I have been on a rigid search for great ribbon for a long time. It is always on my list of things that I am looking for when I go to a craft market, or quilt show, or when I travel... I always look for ribbon.

I very rarely have success and maybe that's because I am not looking hard enough or in the right places, but I came across Angela Liguori. She is an Italian book artist who happens to sell Italian ribbon and other book arts wares. I emailed her and asked if she will be willing to ship some ribbon out to little ol' Idaho as she works out of the Boston area and I will not be in the Boston area for another month or so, and sure enough she said that she would. She sent me a color chart and a pricing list, she even took the time to send me some samples. The ribbon is wonderful and I know that I will be enjoying it for quite sometime.

You should look at her work she has some beautiful things. Something that I was really impressed with though was the packaging of the samples. If I was in love with that, I can't wait to get the actual ribbon!

So if you want to know something, email someone. I have gotten emails from people all over the world just because I had a question. Once a Norwegian Publisher, another a famous comedian Michael Showalter, and my favorite was when I got an email from my favorite band the Whitest Boy Alive, because I asked about a tour venue. Find what you are looking for.

Idaho is not so bad.

So this weekend we did some hanging out around Idaho Falls on Sunday trying to kill some time. We went to the Temple to look around, because this time of year there are always beautiful tulips and everything is nice. It was a great couple of hours. It helped me to remember that I do love it here, and I will stay as long as I need to to get done whatever I need to get done....

In other news I received the quilt last night. The first Cherry House Quilt. My mom shipped it to me so I could photograph it. It is perfect that the weather turned and started snowing, that meant that I needed an extra quilt anyway. So I gave it a test run last night. It works great. You are going to love it.

Little House

my friend Tyler's last name is Little, and my last name is House. An adjective and a noun. We decided that we by far have the best last names. We also discussed the fact that if one person from each of our families married eachother that there name would be House-Little, or Little-House. This is not actually probable but it sure is funny, think of what kind of business you could start with that! You would be unstopable for sheer cuteness. I love paper, as we have discussed before, and I love little tiny maticulous work with my hands. The smaller the better! All I need is an exacto knife and some magnifying glasses. I decided to make a paper house. A little paper house. Now, paper does not make a sustainable home, but for all intesive purposes it's a great building material for access and cost. Here is one of my Houses. I built it with my Mom in mind, I was going to send it to her, but they aren't the best travelers. It has features from our home in Texas, but this one was built only for two. This house is actually 8'x4'x10' (inches). The roof gave it quite a lot of height. The outside was modeled after a gingerbread house that I thought of.

So little time

So I thought I would post pictures of some of the books that I have made.

It is the coolest thing to be able to give these as gifts. I took one to a bridal shower the other day and it was a hit, and then my friend is starting a diet and needed a food journal so I gave her one. It has just been really fun, and like I said before... it has been an incredible source for relieving stress.

For the past week I have done mostly nothing but make books. I can't believe the stress it relieves, and then to almost instantly have an object that you can use, give to a friend, sell, throw off a balcony in a romantic rage. What a great thing. I know that I have said it before, but I am really in love with book arts. I also love print making, I am just really trying really hard to be good at it. My new favorite form is chine cole. It combines my love of paper with my love of printing. What could be better? You add pieces of colored paper on your plate before you print, so it sticks to your edition... It sounds complicated but it isn't. I will post some pictures next time I print.

I was looking through my PaperAirplane designs, because I want to rework them before I start submitting them, and I love this pattern. I would use it on everything if it was fabric I think it would be really cool on a chair, or an umbrella.

like I said in my previous post... I left for the weekend. I didn't go far, but it was far enough to feel like I had escaped for a little while. I went up to West Yellowstone to take my room mate Courtney's engagement pictures and spend a little time with my friend Mallori at the PlayMill Theatre. If you are in the West Yellowstone area this summer, I highly recommend seeing one of their shows.

Anyway, pictures went great. We actually drove into Yellowstone to this really cool place called Fire Hole. There were waterfalls and just beyond the falls there is a swimming hole. I think we will go there later this summer for my birthday....

Another cool/funny/obnoxious thing was that the buffalo would not get out of the road. They would form a line and then spread out, I bet they were cracking up causing all kinds of traffic and frustration. Plus when you enter the park they give you this flyer that warns you, that you might be gored by a buffalo as they are not gentle, but very unpredictable, so you are fascinated and terrified all at the same time. I just didn't want them looking at me getting any ideas, I am not one to be gored by a buffalo. Although, I made quite a few jokes about being gored by a buffalo, and slashed in the face by a bear...

It was a good weekend, I was happy for the rest. Oh, I forgot to say that it was Courtney's car that I borrowed and right after they left to drive back to Rexburg I locked the keys in the car, and there isn't a spare. Well all I have to say is bless Jeffrey Gonzales and bless Triple A. Everything works out.

the other night I went to my some new friends house to make "cutie cards!"

what is a cutie card you ask?

well, a cutie card a small card that you make to trade with friends. It has to have the word cutie on it in two different colors, and has to have at least two things glued on to it, and you trade them every 28th of the month, because that is the originator of the cutie cards' birthday.

here are some of mine, I have to make more as I do not have enough to trade yet. It was really so fun to just get with other artist and do something outside of school.
