Sorry for the delay! I hope this video makes sense. Of course my camera battery died, so pics will follow soon.

I was thinking about a schedule.

If you sew 10 blocks a day (5 rows, 2 columns) you will be done in 9 days! I don't know if you want to knock it out like that, but you could certainly be done by the end of the month.

Also, it was brought to my attention today that the fabric requirement for the Purple Illuminate is 1/2 a yard, but it tells you to cut 3, 4.5in WOF strips, and 2, 3.25in WOF.... but that equals 20 inches, and 1/2 a yard is 18... yikes!

but there's more! It says that it needs 38, but you really only need 34. I recommend instead of cutting all the way across your 3rd 4.5in strip, you get the pieces that you need from it, and then cut it down to 3.25.

22 of the main triangle in the Purple Illuminate are crucial. The rest can be traded out. It is more important that you get your connectors (3.25in sqaures) than it is all the larger triangles

My anemia has been really bad this past week. It's kept me home and cut my speed down to a snails pace, and since I must be well for my Canadian sojourn next week, I've just finally let myself rest, instead of pushing through it and putting myself in the hospital/ really hurting myself.

The b&w pic keeps it from looking so much like I got punched in both eyes, which anemia will do to you. Also, does anyone else rest their hands on their head? I constantly find myself doing that. I sleep like that too.

Also. I have some things to say about Outfoxed. Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow.

 

Two Quilts

I am finally starting to feel like I can dive back in, and this quilt is gonna be my new All-Star quilt. These pics are the same quilt, one in Castle Peeps and 1001 Peeps, and the next in Outfoxed. I can't decide which I like better. Maybe I will never know. Or maybe it will become clear when they are quilted up and bound. Who knows? Either way, they will be the bomb dot com.

How long until the real reveal? I'll finish sewing, get them in the mail to be quilted, get them back, bind them, photograph them, and send the pattern off to print!

THE ENCHANTED BOW!!!!!!

Karyn, whom I love love love, made this weeks 1001 Peeps Summer Camp project.

Go here to download the pdf to make this sweet skirt. I especially love the paper bag top, and the Purple Pearl Bracelet in a giant enchanted bow is just TOO good.

I'm gonna make one with the dark blue illusion print and a light blue jewel print bow and I'm gonna add some pockets. I might even make an Outfoxed one too! PINK!

Diamond Mountain Quilt Along post #2

I'm always catching up! Here is the button, and here is the video.

I'm not sure how clear the video is, I was a little delirious from the heat today...

A couple of points addressed in the video:

Chain piece to keep things in order, and to simplify!

Press towards the dark fabric. This will keep your seams all going in the same direction so you can lock them together and pin when assembling your units for your block

Press after the first and second round of sewing. Wait for the final pressing until you have sewed on the corners. I also chain piece the corners. I don't know if it saves thread so much as time...

USE PINS! Your point will be more perfect. I think the bigger chore than pins is unsewing... just use them.

Quilt Along Details!

OK.

We're gonna start the Diamond Mountain Quilt Along on Monday August 8th. Come Monday there will be a button for your blogs and a flickr group.

There are some things that have been brought up in emails, and I want to address them/ clean house... whatevs before we get started. So you can get to your 16 hours of fabric cutting!!!

The ruler works! It is the same size as the templates.

The templates work! The A was left off of the top left corner on the template page. It is still A. Also, on the cutting chart it talks about templates B & C.

B & C are the same thing. The difference is a technicality of the placement in the main part of the block. But for peace of mind and a real need to not make things more complicated with this quilt than necessary, just refer to everything as B and follow the diagram!

My feelings on Spray Starch are these. Any time that you are sewing blocks that have bias cut pieces, things can get more than a little out of control. Every time that you press the block, which is necessary, the block will continue to stretch and stretch. SO knock as much of that out before you start as you possibly can. I always say that you want to make your fabric as much like paper as fabricly possible. Starch and press your fabric before you start cutting. You will thank you.

And as for what kind of spray starch I use... I don't imagine it's the best thing on earth, but I just run across the street to Walgreens and pick up a couple of cans of whatever they've got. It's good to have extra on hand. You can use whatever kind you'd like. I think you can even make your own!

My Diamond Mountain Quilt just got back from Sisters, Oregon, and I am so happy to have it home before it leaves for a trunk show or CANADA!

Next to Castle Treasury, Diamond Mountain is my favorite quilt in my current universe.

OMGOODNESS Summer Camp

I've been in NYC all week and I have had the best time. For some reason I wasn't expecting to have the best time... I think being exhausted makes everything seem like a chore, but I really have had such a great time... I'm even going to a baseball game tonight. What am I, an American or something?

Ok. Quilt along post on Monday with kit sources, if you haven't found one already. Also, comment here if have ordered the book/ are ordering the book and still need fabric requirements.

Also. It is finished. The Red Letter Day stripe is officially back in your lives come 2012.

A few things

First, I want to sit down and talk with/ hug each of you who left a comment on my last post. I think we each have a job to find out and know what we are supposed to be and do, and its just so great that we can share our sentiments on the joys and struggles of our journeys. More on that later.

I hope you are still following along with Summer Camp! Amanda of MsMcPorkchop has made a very cute Peeptastic patchwork drawstring pouch and has created a pdf tutorial for you to download! I love Amanda so much, I designed a line of Halloween fabric, for next year, as an ode to her.

Also, lets have a quilt along talk. I'm still up in the air, and all of you were equally divided about where to start... so I think that means that we will just start in the front of the book and do Diamond Mountain first. Meaning... we could potentially work through the book, and you would have made 4 OUT OF CONTROL quilts in a relatively quick period of time. Relative being relative.

Ok. We are going to start on August 8th. I will remind you before then, but I would recommend a. getting the book if you haven't already, and b. collecting the fabric. If you are waiting on the book and need the fabric requirements leave me a comment and I will zap you a pdf.

AND Another thing. Are there any shops that would be willing to kit up a few Midnight at the Oasis quilts? I have 3 requests right now, and I would love to get those connections made. I can also send you a fabric req. doc.

Are there any other book quilt requests? Because we can probably hook you up with a shop with the goods.
