This is the sky over Houston today, say a little prayer for everyone flying into Market.  Yicks...looks like something from Twister.

Thank you for tender thoughts for little Mickey, the doctor has him on some pain pills which seem to be giving him some relief.  

I've had an opportunity to go through all of the entries for the fabric drawing - which have been incredible.  Your ideas have been great, what a creative bunch you are!  I've emailed the winners to notify them, and I requested that when they make their projects that they will share them with all of us.  Here are their ideas, which is your favorite of these?
 

Mandy - who wants to make pillowcases for her boys, "To remind them that when owls are awake, they should be asleep!!"

Sally Cutting - who said: "How about a small quilt for a child who's lost everything in Tonga or Samoa.....there has to be many who could use the comfort of a cheery blankie.  I know my 3 year old grandson would be heart broken if he had lost his."

Jen Eskridge says "I think I'd make some drawstring backpacks for my kids.  They are still little and those backpacks are just the right size"

And from Andrea, with my favorite entry of them all said: "I would make a "night owl" sleepover set.   I'd need a little extra dark brown chenille for it...but here goes my idea>  I'd make a nightowl backpack/messenger bag style made of dark brown chenille with flap pockets made with the coordinating owl fabrics.  The straps would be done in the solids.  The main flap would also be done in the coordinating owls.  Inside would be a night owl quilt - a cozy soft quilt made of all the fabrics -and backed by a cozy soft chenille or minky in the matching chocolate brown colour.  If I can swing it, it would probably be quillow style, folds into itself.   The night owls would be watchers for the sleepover, just incase the wee one is a little anxious, nervous or worried about the sleepover.  Kind of a security comfort blanket...but the owls are night watchers and can 'watch out' for the scary things like new noises, new shadows, etc. because of course, owls are nocturnal and stay up all night so you don't have to.   Of course, with my night owl kit would come a coordinating comforting night owl stuffie made by me, that would tuck into one of the pockets of the backpack.   
And as this idea came to fruition...yes, i would totally design and make this to show off if I won it!  What a fun project to do ;-)

By the time I finished reading her entry, I was so excited by her descriptions, and enthusiasm for the project that I wanted to make everything with her...what fun!!!

It was definitely hard to pick four winners - if it were possible, I'd give fabric to EVERYONE!!! 

Alright friends, quilt market is officially upon us!  I'll try to be good, and remember my freakin' camera for once and take lots of lovely photos.  I'll update early next week, and let you in on all the fun stuff from Market, as well as any embarrassing celebrity encounters I might have.  By the way, that means me being embarrassing around celebs, since I'm such a goof ball...not any celebs doing anything embarrassing; but that could be fun too!

A little announcement

Hello friends!

First of all - Thank you so much for the kind birthday wishes, I appreciate your kindness so much!  Lizzy just flew in today, so that is a gift in and of itself.  Secondly, my little Mickey dog has been in and out of the animal hospital with a injured back...I have no idea how he did it, but he has been in incredible pain; which is breaking my heart.  Consequently, I haven't been able to pick the winners of the fabric drawing - there are so many good entries, it's been hard to choose.  So, I hope you will please forgive me for missing my own deadline.  I promise to get to it in the next two days.  To make it up to you, I'm going to add another fat quarter bundle to the drawing, so it's not all bad, right?

Okay, I'm off to check on my sweet little guy!

I didn't forget...I promise!

Yesterday was the 10th, the day of the drawing for the fabulous Anniversary Gifts.  I did have the drawing, we'll get to the names in a minute...I wanted to have a cute picture with Mick holding the names of the winners in his mouth.  He's not a slobbery dog so that would not have been an issue, but he is on the other hand a jumpy, sometimes nervous dog.  There was no getting him to hold still and understand these instructions: 1. Mick hold these pieces of paper in your mouth, no Mick; don't eat them, just hold them. Round two: Okay Mick, just stand still while I hang this little sign from your neck saying who the winners are...wait wait wait; don't run away, don't go outside -

MICK COME BACK! 

So much for that silly exercise, you will be happy to know that Mickey has quietly been allowed to go back to being a dog, without pieces of paper sticking out of his mouth, or a little sign hanging from his neck that says "the winners of our 2nd anniversary contest are Jacquie, and Kathleen"

Thank you to everyone for entering our anniversary contest, and for leaving such lovely, heart felt comments.  In our crazy world today it was so comforting to see how much you have in your lives to love, to be grateful for, to count; your list of two's just went on and on, and that is a wonderful thing!

Well dearest friends, here's to two more years of quilting, of fabric, of patterns, of family; of market, of silliness, of getting lots done!!!

If you wonder why Stella was leaving it's because Mick just jumped on the bed.  Pet Relations just isn't the same without you.  The only reason they semi cooperated is because I'm the Mother, but alas not a dog or cat whisperer.  Pinecone regretfully declines having her photo taken due to the fact that she is feeling a little chubby in her winter coat.

Tomorrow I'll try to capture on film the elusive Stella and the Red Pencil...sounds like some kind of exotic Nancy Drew type tale (or should I say tail...ha ha).

Blanket Weather

As blanket weather approaches, how about a little blanket for your best cat, or dog.  Here's an idea for a little pet blanket, that our cats and dog love.  Mickey actually carries his favorite blanket up and down the stairs.  We keep one of the little blankets on the corner of the couch, where the cats lay, to try to protect it somewhat from cat hair.  Mickey also has one in the bottom of his kennel, it fits just right.  This is great way to use up bits of fabric left over from previous projects.

• 2 pc of 24" x 24" flannel
• 1 pc 24" x 24" fleece
• Sandwich together, flannel/fleece/flannel, safety pin the layers, and sew diagonally from corner to corner - both way - creating a large X
• Sew a straight line approximately 4" in, on all sides
• With heavy duty scissors, make a cut about every 2", careful not to cut the stitching line (see above). 
• Give it a good wash, then throw it in the dryer, and it's an early Christmas for your pet!

These also make great gifts for the other pet lovers in your life.  The dimensions can be increased or decreased depending on the size of your pet.

Weekend Update

Busy, busy weekend, getting Melissa ready to leave for college, a birthday dinner for my BFF, a last minute visit from Becky and baby Alton, and a game of tug of war between Stella and Mickey...

Stella was hiding under the armoire, Ashlee dangled a bit of ribbon across her paw to get her interested, then she gave the ribbon to Mickey who worked hard to get it from her death grip - but alas, Mick caved, Stella won!!!

Introducing Mickey Rooney

You've met the cats, and now I'd like to introduce Mickey Rooney...

Actually his name is Mickey, but my Melissa has to give everyone their own, special name.  When she met Mickey she immediately renamed him, for the beloved actor.  He's full grown, but he looks (and behaves) like a puppy.  When people ask us what kind of dog he is, we say he is 3/4 boston terrier, and 1/4 puppy head.  He couldn't be sweeter!
