December already???

Okay, who said it could be December already? Wasn't it just December, didn't we just put up the Christmas tree...like last week? The years go by quickly, but this one has been a blur.

While 2011 has been challenging, at the end of the day (and year) I can honestly say that I'm grateful for it all. I've been given an opportunity to honestly look at my life, to see what is wonderful, to see what is unimportant, and to change what I need to change. I'm looking forward to 2012 both personally and quilt wise...lots of exciting things in the works that I can't wait to share.

Merry Christmas, and a winner!

A special thanks to everyone who left a comment in our drawing. I was so very touched by all of your sincere Christmas wishes!  So many of them were wishes for others safety, health, happiness, wellbeing, and goodwill towards others! The hearts of quilters are warm and kind indeed!

My Christmas wish is for my brother,who has kidney disease, and is suffering from depression will ove come the depression which will allow him to get the next step to recieve a new kidney. I also wish for peace and prosperity(spiritual as well as monetary)for all.

A Christmas Wish and giveaway!

First, and foremost - Thank you so much for your kind thoughts, and prayers for Melissa and our family during her medical ordeal.  She is getting stronger daily which is wonderful!  She read all of your messages and comments, and was very touched by your kindness ♥♥♥

Is everyone ready for Christmas, just one week away?  I am so excited, because for the first time, in a long time my entire family will be together.  There is nothing more important to me than my family, and I am so grateful we will have this time together.  This Christmas will be a little bittersweet, as I've mentioned before, Luke is leaving in February for one year, and I'm having such a hard time with this.  When he was 19 he went on a mission for our church; he was gone for 2 years, but it was something that I had prepared for since his birth, so it was very different.  But he is going to serve our country, and I am very proud of him for the choices he is making. 

In honor of Christmas, and all of holidays celebrated this time of year I thought we needed a giveaway; most Mom's I know do lots of giving, and not as much receiving; so this is a gift just for YOU! 

The prize?  A bundle of Amy Schimler's fat quarters, a bundle of Kona Cotton Fat Quarter Solids, and some other goodies I've gathered throughout the year!

My gift to you...a drawing for free quilt patterns

    It's almost Christmas!  I can't believe that the year is almost over - where did it go, and how did it go so quickly?  For everyone following Lizzy's travel itinerary - she, Jessica, and Melissa made it to Amsterdam last night...finally!  They will be spending Christmas in Brussels, and I will be flying to Salt Lake to spend it with Ashlee.  This is the first year that the girls and I haven't been together for Christmas, and I must say that it's really hurty :(  But I am happy for the girls going to Europe!  Lizzy certainly deserves it after graduating from college, and Melissa is working so hard to get into Johns Hopkins School of Nursing - they deserve a break, and some fun!

In the spirit of it being better to give than receive...in addition to my fabric giveaway for both the U.S. and Internationally (two winners total), I'm adding some free patterns!!!  Since we are going into our third year of business I'm going to give away 3 pattens along with the fabric!  That will be a great way to start the new year with new fabrics and new pattens.

Merry Christmas everyone!  This message comes to you in hopes that you have had a very Merry Christmas with loved ones, that you have a full tummy with too much to eat, and love in your hearts for all of those around you! 

We have had a wonderful day - and we are full of gratitude for all of our many blessings.  We thank you for your friendship, kindness and support.  We are so looking forward to lots of new adventures in the up coming year.

Early Christmas

How sweet of a deal is this???  I purchased some beautiful paper for Lizzy for Christmas - which I gave to her early (a life long bad habit).  She in turn made me a beautiful little book - which she gave me early (bad habit by Mother, passed onto, and repeated by daughter).  Here's a picture of it - which doesn't nearly do it justice.

 

Look at this amazing paper...Lizzy said it's made in Nepal - wouldn't it be great fabric?  The cover is black leather, and linen.  Lizzy is going to take better photos of the entire set of books that she has made as gifts.  They are perfect purse size 4" x 5" x 3/4".  I love early Christmas - even if there isn't much left by Christmas morning.

Everything is relative

It's winter, or so says the calendar but the temperature has been in the 70's to 80's in Houston.  I check the webcam at my daughters school in Idaho, they have snow predicated for the next 5 days, and the temp is -1.  When the girls call they say they are so cold, and can't wait to come home...I tell them that I'm having to use the air conditioner because it's so warm, they say "what a dream".  I look at the images of their school with everything covered in snow, and I think what fun it would be, to be there.  How nice it would actually be, to be cold in the winter time.  But I have to confess, -1 is too cold for me. 

My Son and his family will be here on Friday, and my daughters should all be home by Saturday.  I cannot wait - I feel giddy I am so excited that they are coming home.  This is Alton's first Christmas!  As soon as I finish Alton's present I'll post it...little fabrics picture books (another Simply Quilts project).  His is the only present I can share - as he is the only who doesn't read, or check my blog...(ssshh...Lizzy's present is amazing!!!)

Isn't this drawing beautiful!  Lizzy made it years ago, it's curious how she is so drawn to drawing faces.

Santa deliveries

My secret santa gift arrived today, all the way from France.  Thank you sweet Celine, I can't wait for Christmas!

Santa's workshop

This is our year of handmade gifts, and my things to do list doesn't seem to be shrinking.  Not only have I been making the gifts, but for the most part I've tried not to make any purchases either.  I'm using what I have on hand, things that I've been collecting for years.  Projects that I've seen, and I've always planned to make, are now getting made. 

Here's one in progress...

I've been collecting these beautiful vintage hankies for years.  There was an episode on Simply Quilts - so many of my ideas come from there - called Hanky Panky Quilts (Elizabeth, Ashlee, Melissa, and Jessica - I know).  I decide to make a small wall quilt along those lines.  I cut a 15" square of white background fabric, and proceed to chop up those beautiful handkerchiefs - cutting the first one was a killer.  Some exposed edges are trimmed in lace, and some will be tacked down.  I'll square it up, add a 2" border strips, layer it with with a back, and thin batting, sew all around (pillow style), flip inside out, close the opening, and another gift will be complete.

Hooray for handmade Christmas, and hooray for using what I have on hand, instead of buying MORE.
