Hi quilty friends,
Sorry to have missed last week's binding lesson on the Cherry House Quilts QAL, but I'm having some health issues, and wasn't able to post. My dearest Julie jumped in and shared her binding tutorial, which everyone is raving about! Please be sure and add your finished quilts to the flickr page, and show off your amazing work! In a week or two (w/your permission), I'll post your finished quilts here, and we can be show-offs for a minute (polite ones, but show-offs nevertheless!)
This is the calling all quilters portion of the post...
My amazing daughter Melissa, who truly has the tenderest of hearts is finishing nursing school @ Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. Part of their clinicals is to do some work in the community. Her recent focus has been working with disadvantaged babies at the Southeast Early Head Start program. These little ones come from very heartbreaking situations...AIDS babies, drug addicted babies, babies removed from their homes and families, little ones who literally have nothing in the world. When Melissa was telling me about the program, I said, "they need quilts, these babies need quilts". She said that there were 55 little ones in the program, and there was no way I could come up with that many quilts...little does she know about the love and generosity of all of you!
So this is what we need if you are willing, and able to share (once again):
28 quilts for boys, ages 0 to 3
24 quilts for girls, ages 0 to 3
3 gender neutral quilts, for three sick little ones coming into the program, gender unknown at this point.
Sizes...the program director asked for small quilts, so I'm thinking anything from 32" x 36" to crib size 50" x 53"
The immediate need is for 55 quilts, but if they receive more they will begin to issue a quilt to every child that enters the program. If your guild, church group, or sewing buddies don't have a charitable organization, this would be a great one to adopt. Is anyone here part of the the Baltimore MQG? If so, would you contact me at cherryhousequilts at gmail com.
This is where to send your quilt:

I feel especially emotional lately, but when I think about the numerous times that I've reached out to you with requests for presents for the soldiers in Iraq, and quilts for the wounded at Ft. Hood, your generosity brings me to tears. You never say no, you never say you can't help; and I'm truly humbled to know you, and call you my friends ♥
xoxo,
Cherri
Put me down for 3 boys quilts. I have a couple almost done that my seniors group is working on I just need to quilt. I will do an additional. Glad to be a part of something with this wonderful new family I have found! Laine

I've got one for a little girl. Made it awhile back when I found a simple pattern and I've been looking for a home for it since. I'll get it in the mail as soon as I can.

So nice to hear from you again! I made a tiny (19x16) quilt with Mary Englebreit fairy tales fabric. It won't keep anybody warm, but it would be a nice snuggle bug to hold. It's been waiting for the perfect home. In the mail this weekend!

I am just finishing up a quilt I'd love to send -- it's a girly (pink and red) crib quilt. So put me down for that! I'm happy to help and love being able to provide quilts for kids who need a bit of cozy love added to their lives.

I'd be happy to send my gender neutral quilt along quilt as soon as it's finished. Could take a week or so though as I'm waiting for self-threading needles (none to be bought on my island) in order to efficiently bury my quilting threads.

Is there a time limit on this? I'm in a quilt along and would love to use the blocks I'm making towards baby quilts but I'm very, very slow. (I might be able to do a couple in the next couple of weeks).

I'll put in my quilt-along quilt! It is in the grey and blue colorway, so boy? When do they need them?
Posted by: tracy_a | March 09, 2011 at 06:03 PM
I'll definitely send a quilt or two! Do you need to know whether it's for a boy or girl? Keep us updated on how we're doing so every little one gets something to snuggle in. xo

Thanks for letting us help out! I told my family and friends of your needs; thought it was a great way for the grandkids to "give" too.

I have a quilt that would be for a girl. It is red. It is all machined quilted. Approx. 38x42ish. I will wash it and send it off to you. I was wondering why that quilt stayed on top of my sewing machine. I was going to send it somewhere. Now I know where somewhere is.

I need a project, I will make a few smaller ones and send them. If they aren't needed immediately, I'm sure there will be more little ones in need before too long. <3

I truly love your site.. Pleasant colors & theme. Did you create this web site yourself? Please reply back as I'm looking to create my own website and want to find out where you got this from or what the theme is called. Many thanks!
