My book arrived!!!

City Quilts arrived on Monday...it was a wonderful day!  I'll tell you a little story...at the beginning of the whole book process, I had this vision of myself, standing in my entry way, holding my book, and a FedEx envelope, flipping though the book, with tears streaming down my face, because the book is beautiful and I can't believe it's done.  That was the vision before the book barely began, then it REALLY began, it began to get very challenging with everything that had to be accomplished, in a very short, very tight deadline. I began to have doubts, I began to doubt I could get it done.  The writing part was a real challenge, the quilts; the quilts were the easy part, but there were still 12, and only 5 months.  There were days when I thought I had taken on an impossible task, and then I would close my eyes, and remember what I saw, remember that vision.  So Monday, I walk in the door, and I'm in my entry way, holding my book, and a FedEx envelope with tears streaming down my face, because I did it, I actually accomplished what I set out to do.  It would be wrong and dishonest to say that I did this on my own...I received emotional support from my friends, and my children - plus two great essays - one by Lizzy, and one by Ashlee, I had help from my sweet Mom, I had help from my dearest BFF Rich, and most of all I had help from God, this was our project, and we did it!!!!  I really really love this book and I hope you will love it too!

Things I love #52

I don't really know if I've had 52 THINGS I LOVE POSTS, I've lost count, and 52 sounds like a good number.

Okay...back to the thing I love!  I received an email the other day telling me that The Electric Quilt company is releasing EQ7, how awesome is that?  Pretty awesome I must say!  When Lizzy and I started Cherry House Quilts three years ago, the first thing I did was purchase EQ6, and it was one of the the best decisions I ever made.  Then, with writing City Quilts, the software became priceless, every quilt for the book was designed, and colored first with EQ6. 

All I need to know now is when does this awesomeness go on sale?  I have more quilts to design!

Playing with Color

Guess what?  I received my quilts back from C&T yesterday...so exciting!  Everybody came home, except City Lot and City Lights which are going directly to Quilt Market.  I'm just going to come right out and say this, I love this quilt!  I had the most fun creating it, playing with all that COLOR!!!  Aren't these colors of Kona Cottons just delicious?

The other day I received an email from C&T saying that the advance copies of City Quilts are in; I was hoping to receive one yesterday, but alas, it wasn't shipped out in time, so it looks like Monday will be the day.

I've been so busy trying to get ready for Market, and trying to help Lizzy with her Castle Peeps quilts, if you haven't discovered Castle Peeps yet, you must check out it soon, soon, soon!  The fabric is perfect - adorable and perfect; what more could you ask for.

Okay friends...back to sewing!

My first Moda Bake Shop!!!

Hello!!!

I'm so excited to have posted my first Moda Bake Shop project...now I get to claim I'm one of the 'Bake Shop girls'...a club I definitely want to be part of! 

Do you know what I love best about this quilt?  The white crispness of it...this pattern, or recipe I should say could be expanded and modified to create a bed quilt...so many possibilities!  A jelly roll or two and some white solid fabric - there will be no stopping you!

Want to see something a little silly?  One of the shots I took while working on the photos for this - there was this round cement roll thing, I laid the quilt over it...silly, but fun!

Five Busy Days

Life has been a whirlwind since last Thursday...Thursday at 9:00 PM Lizzy and I boarded a plane for Salt Lake City for a quick trip to have our hair done...fancy shamancy, let me tell ya; to see our little Ashlee, to hangout in SLC for a bit to visit quilt shops, eat at all of Ashlee's favorite restaurants (can we talk about Omar's!!! incredible), meet all of her bestest friends, and just have a little break.  It was such a quick trip, but so worth it!  Ashlee works at Salon Zazou, and they are miracle workers!  They treated me like royalty; I could get used to being pampered that way! 

Friday night we didn't have any plans, and we were hunting for something to do, when the phone rang, and a friend of Ashlee's called and asked if we wanted tickets to the Ballet!  We thought about it for about 2 seconds, and out the door we ran; what a magical time it was.  We saw the opening night of Balenchine's America.  If you are in SLC, and have the opportunity to go...go!!!  The first number was beautiful, the second number was a little funky, and the finale was glorious!

Saturday morning we met early for breakfast at the Market Street Grill...so good!  I was able to meet all of Ashlee's dearest friends, and have a nice visit with everyone.  Next thing you know...we were off, back to the airport, back to Houston, and back to work.  Lizzy's one yard sample cuts had arrived, and sewing was the order of the day.  Sunday was recovering from our trip, and creating Castle Peeps quilts for Market.  Word to the wise...measure twice, or thrice especially when you are jet lagged, exhausted, and operating on little sleep - especially when there is no fabric to waste, and your daughter is counting on you not to screw it up - lesson learned :-(

Then today was my interview with Pat Sloan!  The interview went well I think, I was nervous, but talking quilts is not a stretch for me, so all and all, it went well!  The interview is now able here...check it out, and let me know what you think.  If you listen or leave a comment on Pat's website you can win some fab prizes!

So, now I will take a deep breath, and then get back to work.  We are sewing Castle Peeps quilts as fast as we can, awaiting Lizzy's MIA fabric (ridiculous...ask her about it later), and working on a special quilt for these ladies here.

Lots of little things!

Nothing big to report, but lots of little things...mostly links that will point you in other directions, but I'm glad you started here :-)

• This photo of City Blocks - has nothing to do with the post, but I love it, I thought you might want something nice to look at, it was easy to find in my computer, and at the moment I don't have anything else to show.  Nothing like absolute honesty, right?

• Lizzy's new line of fabric Castle Peeps has begun to arrive, and I got to see in person yesterday for the first time...so perfect - you are going to love it! ♥♥♥♥♥

A look inside City Quilts

Isn't this the coolest collage of photos?  These are a few of the quilts and city elements in my book City Quilts.  The first quilt (upper left) is City Lights (the quilt on the cover of the book), next upper right is City Tracks, and the bottom right is City Harbor (one of my favorites!).  Stash Books, a new imprint of C&T Publishing has a new website, and this photo is from their page about my book!
