Lizzy's Parade

 
Have you seen the new Fons and Porter's Easy Quilts Winter 2009?  If not, you should check it out!  On page 74 you will see Lizzy's Parade.  I thought it the perfect title for a quilt featuring "flags" from Lizzy's Red Letter Day fabric. 

On a personal note, I can't adequately express the joy I feel in creating a quilt with my daughter's fabric...truly a dream come true!  It's one of those strange occurrence that instead of it being a dream in the far off distant; maybe never to happen future, it is happening now - and it is as wonderful as I imagined; which is also a sweet surprise!

A bump in the road

For some time now Lizzy has been prodding me to change our pattern store from what is; functional, to something it should be; efficient, and nice.  I haven't done it for a myriad of reasons, mostly because it falls to the bottom of the priority list. 

Well, I just found out that our little store is broken, so what was at the bottom of the list, has magically moved to the VERY top.  Between Lizzy (thank you Lizzy), my son Luke (thank you Luke), and myself; we are on the road to getting a new store.

Thank you in advance for your patience, and I do apologize for any inconvience this may have caused you.  We should be up and running soon, and back in business!  In the interim, if you would like to order any pattern, just order Best Wishes (the only button that seems to be working :-\  ), then in the comments note the pattern you would actually like, and I'll get your order to you.

Mean while, sit back, relax, and enjoy this beautiful image that I didn't take; but downloaded from webshots (love them!), and by then hopefully all your worries and cares will be washed away, and we will open for business!

A bunch of stuff

Let's start with Market!  I told you I was going to try so hard to remember my camera, and guess what?  I did, but I forgot the memory card :-( ...depending on how well you know me, this wouldn't surprise you in the least.  Well, Market was, as always; great!  Sadly though, it definitely seemed as if there were less rows of vendors. 

Let's see what I can recall...Thursday was a dinner with Lizzy's Andover peeps here...best mashed potatoes in the world!  Then Friday we were back there again for the Fabric 2.0 hosted by the ridiculously funny J. Caroline.  We got to rub elbows with Jay McCarrol, Kim from True Up,  Jenean Morrison & hubby, and Myrinda plus many, many more.  Then it was a dash through the rain to Sample Spree where we ran into Pam and Elizabeth.  Lizzy had a great surprise for those two road warriors; check it out here!  This armadillo cake was part of a big surprise...take a look at Pam's videos.  There was all kinds of buzz about dear Mark Lipinski no longer being at his OWN magazine, or on Quilt Out Loud...I bought a membership because of him, and now he's out???  Intrigue for sure.  I did actually see him for a minute, said "hello", and he touched my arm, and said "oh, hi" and off he went into the night; just kidding - I think he was in a meeting of some sort. 

Saturday & Sunday was walking the show; lots of great booths.  Also an opportunity to meet folks that I've been wanting to meet for a long while.  All & all it was great to be there with Lizzy, since we had missed Spring Market I had been feeling a little out of the loop.  Lizzy and I are going to try to pop by Quilt Festival tomorrow ...anyone going to be there?

What else???  For anyone that is going to make City Scapes, I've created a little pdf color chart.  Sometimes I get emails asking what color is Peacock, or Pacific, so in order to make life easier, here's a chart!

That's about it for today I think, sorry for the lack of Market pics, but I do know that there are plenty around.  Note to self: Next Market remember the camera and the memory card!

In Houston today...

This is the sky over Houston today, say a little prayer for everyone flying into Market.  Yicks...looks like something from Twister.

Thank you for tender thoughts for little Mickey, the doctor has him on some pain pills which seem to be giving him some relief.  

I've had an opportunity to go through all of the entries for the fabric drawing - which have been incredible.  Your ideas have been great, what a creative bunch you are!  I've emailed the winners to notify them, and I requested that when they make their projects that they will share them with all of us.  Here are their ideas, which is your favorite of these?
 

Mandy - who wants to make pillowcases for her boys, "To remind them that when owls are awake, they should be asleep!!"

Sally Cutting - who said: "How about a small quilt for a child who's lost everything in Tonga or Samoa.....there has to be many who could use the comfort of a cheery blankie.  I know my 3 year old grandson would be heart broken if he had lost his."

Jen Eskridge says "I think I'd make some drawstring backpacks for my kids.  They are still little and those backpacks are just the right size"

And from Andrea, with my favorite entry of them all said: "I would make a "night owl" sleepover set.   I'd need a little extra dark brown chenille for it...but here goes my idea>  I'd make a nightowl backpack/messenger bag style made of dark brown chenille with flap pockets made with the coordinating owl fabrics.  The straps would be done in the solids.  The main flap would also be done in the coordinating owls.  Inside would be a night owl quilt - a cozy soft quilt made of all the fabrics -and backed by a cozy soft chenille or minky in the matching chocolate brown colour.  If I can swing it, it would probably be quillow style, folds into itself.   The night owls would be watchers for the sleepover, just incase the wee one is a little anxious, nervous or worried about the sleepover.  Kind of a security comfort blanket...but the owls are night watchers and can 'watch out' for the scary things like new noises, new shadows, etc. because of course, owls are nocturnal and stay up all night so you don't have to.   Of course, with my night owl kit would come a coordinating comforting night owl stuffie made by me, that would tuck into one of the pockets of the backpack.   
And as this idea came to fruition...yes, i would totally design and make this to show off if I won it!  What a fun project to do ;-)

By the time I finished reading her entry, I was so excited by her descriptions, and enthusiasm for the project that I wanted to make everything with her...what fun!!!

It was definitely hard to pick four winners - if it were possible, I'd give fabric to EVERYONE!!! 

Alright friends, quilt market is officially upon us!  I'll try to be good, and remember my freakin' camera for once and take lots of lovely photos.  I'll update early next week, and let you in on all the fun stuff from Market, as well as any embarrassing celebrity encounters I might have.  By the way, that means me being embarrassing around celebs, since I'm such a goof ball...not any celebs doing anything embarrassing; but that could be fun too!

A little announcement

Hello friends!

First of all - Thank you so much for the kind birthday wishes, I appreciate your kindness so much!  Lizzy just flew in today, so that is a gift in and of itself.  Secondly, my little Mickey dog has been in and out of the animal hospital with a injured back...I have no idea how he did it, but he has been in incredible pain; which is breaking my heart.  Consequently, I haven't been able to pick the winners of the fabric drawing - there are so many good entries, it's been hard to choose.  So, I hope you will please forgive me for missing my own deadline.  I promise to get to it in the next two days.  To make it up to you, I'm going to add another fat quarter bundle to the drawing, so it's not all bad, right?

Okay, I'm off to check on my sweet little guy!

And now for something completely different

Introducing Finn, our sweet new kitty!  The other day I made the mistake of looking in the pet section of the local classifieds.  There, in black & white was a notice that said the "Humble Animal Control"  is a kill facility, and that this rescue group named "More Than Angels" was desperately seeking people to foster or adopt pets.  This group collects animals that have been picked up by the city, but not claimed.  They work through the PetCo, and hold adoptions every Saturday and Sunday.  By last Saturday afternoon, little Finn was mine.  He is a sweet, mild mannered boy that loves to be held, and loves to play.  Things at home though have been a little topsy turvy since I brought him home.  Stella and Pinecone are quite annoyed at me, but Mickey doesn't seem to mind, and Finn certainly isn't afraid of him...which is good. I'm not sure how long this adjustment period will take, but I think it will be alright in the end.  

Okay...back to quilting!  I am loving all of your comments, and ideas on how you would use the fat quarter bundles from Robert Kaufman.  Be sure and leave your project idea if you haven't had a chance so far.  The drawing for the bundles will be on October 7th.
