The count down has begun...

     For all of our new patterns that we are releasing!  They are just about ready, off to the printers, then out the door.  First we will release this little treasure Forest Friends, next is City Fair, after that will be Baby, I Do (2 patterns in one), and last but not least a log cabin quilt pattern that is oh so lovely!  I've been keeping the log cabin under wraps, so to speak - but I think you will love it.  It's scrappy, and wonderful!  Okay friends, just a few more days, and these patterns will start being added to our Pattern Store.

Fabric Fun with Magic Blocks!

Remember I was saying that I wanted to create a one block quilt with the Housewares pattern?  Well, I'm working on it...what do you think?  I've resized the block here to 30" x 40", to create a 34" x 44" quilt. 

The coolest thing about this block is that you can make it small, medium, or large. 

Shown below is the quilt in a 5 x 4 layout with a block that is sized to 12" x 15", making a 60" x 60" quilt. 

What I think would be really great, would be to create the quilt below as a scrap quilt.  Here's what I would do:

1. Assign each piece in the block a number and a value  
2. Sort scraps into values - light, med light, med, med dark, dark
3. Cut all the scraps into the required sizes
4. Into separate stacks put all of the pieces by number, and value.
5. Assemble the blocks according to the pattern instructions. 

One block - 1000's of possibilties!  Anybody game?  If so, leave me a comment, and let me know.  I'll create a PDF to download with multiple size block possibilities, and everyone can get started on their Magic Block quilt!

 

   

Fat Quarter Winner, and your favorite Housewares Quilt

Thanks everyone for participating in our FREE LIZZY DISH FAT QUARTER GIVEAWAY, and for voting for your favorite Housewares Quilt.  #6 seems to have received the most votes, #3 received the second most votes, some said they like all of them and couldn't decide, and someone said they had a difficult time seeing the difference in them, since they were all pretty similar.  If I were to make the quilt again, I would make #6 myself.  Something else I'm considering is making 1 block, increasing the dimensions enough to use it as a baby quilt.  Now all I have to do is wrap my head around the math, which can sometimes be a challenge. 

Ready for the winner of the Fat Quarters?  It's Ann...Hooray for Ann!  I can't wait to see what she will create.  Ann, if you will send me an email with your address to cherryhousequilts at gmail dot com, I'll get your fabric in the mail to you.

Lizzy Dish Fat Quarter Giveaway

Hi Friends,

It's been so exciting to see the 1000's (literally) of folks that have downloaded our free Housewares Quilt Pattern!  We hope that you will enjoy it, and make lots & lots of quilts, with lots & lots of Lizzy Dish fabric.  The block that makes up the quilt is one large block, used 4 times.  I thought it would be fun to play around on EQ6 and look at some of the variations that could be created playing around the with arrangement.  Some of the blocks are mirror images, and some are rotated.  What do you think?  Do you have a favorite?  Leave us a comment, telling us which one you like (the quilts are numbered 1 through 6 starting from the top left through the bottom right), and on Sunday we will have a drawing for 2 Lizzy Dish fat quarters!   

       

Baby, I Do! Pattern Release

    We have been very busy worker bees at Cherry House Quilts, we will be releasing three quilt patterns - one right after the other.  The first is our Forest Friends quilt pattern, and the 2nd pattern we will be releasing is our Baby, I Do!  These are such fun, quick patterns for all the über hipster babies out there.  This quilt features Robert Kaufman's wonderful pear fabric from the Fruit Basket Line, and Kona Cotton Solids.  As soon as I saw this fabric I knew the quilts that I wanted to make.  Since our  I Do! quilt pattern is such a favorite, I thought it would be fun to do something along the same lines, but for little ones!  The pattern will include instructions for both quilts shown - a two for one pattern. 

What's next?  The City Fair pattern release!  Yesterday was the photo shoot for all of these quilts - I'm not sure why I always pick the coldest, windiest days for these events, but it never fails.  Many thanks to my Mom & Sister for their help. 

Okay friends - off to finish an amazing Log Cabin quilt that I think you are going to flip for, that pattern will be available in early February.

Hooray for Betsy!

Who's Betsy?  The winner of our scrap contest!  Thanks to everyone who participated, I love that you love scraps as much as I do, and that everyone is excited for the opportunity to win them.  Everyone that is not Betsy, don't fret - Spring Market will be here before you know it, and that means more quilts = more scraps.  I know some of the fabric that is going to be released (big hint here-think Lizzy, think awesome!!!), and everyone is going to want to be in line for that, I promise. 

The trip to my Son's was wonderful - he will always be my baby - even at 26 years old.  He is in the military at Fort Hood, proudly serving our country.  Let me tell you about a few things he shared...at 5:00 PM everyday when they lower the flag everyone, everywhere on base stops what they are doing for 10 seconds to salute the flag - my eyes filled with tears when he told me that.  Also, at 10:00 PM every night they play a bugle call, which means that everyone hearing it can sleep well that night, knowing someone is on duty, watching out for those that rest.  Luke did tell me that he will be deployed next February to Iraq - that filled me with fear - but many things can change from now till then. 

One of my goals on the trip was to get a photo for the pattern cover of Forest Friends using my little Grandson Alton.  The poor baby has asthma, and wasn't feeling good, though he did like the quilt, and tried to cooperate as much as an 18 month old can.  I'll have to take more pictures, but this is one of my favorites...

More quilts = more scraps

My efforts to clean out my scraps have been going very well, one giveaway here, and two scrap bags here.  Well those packages have been mailed - I always feel better when I get everything mailed.  A couple more finished quilts, equal another bag of scraps.

What's included???  Some Cosmo Cricket fabric scrapes, some Lizzy Dish scrapes, some Forest Fun scraps (those are brand new!), plus some Kona Cotton Solid scrapes of some new projects that I'm working on.  These are some great leftovers - big pieces, little pieces, some strips - someone could make something really great - or lots of little great somethings!

I'm away for a few days, Mickey and I are taking a road trip...off to see my son for this birthday, and my not so little grandbaby Alton.

RESOURCE FOR KONA COTTON SOLIDS:

I get lots of emails looking for sources for Kona Cotton Solids.  After a lovely chat with Kathy of Pink Chalk Fabrics, I learned that she carries lots of colors, as well as various cut options.  She has a swatch pack, as well as a Sampler Pack that is available in fat quarters, 1/2 yards, and 1 yard cuts.  This is a great way to get started with your Kona Cotton Solids collection.
