Welcome to my blog, and welcome to Fall!  I love the Fall - it is the perfect time of year for Houston, Texas - the weather is cool, and I feel so alive!  There is a special light in the sky, I love the warm glow.  It would be safe to say - this is my favorite season!

Fall into Fall - It's almost here!

Snoopy Dancing Time!

The power is on...it is Snoopy Dance Time!!!

Isn't it funny, when you say "Snoopy Dance" everyone knows what it is, and everyone knows your level of joy!  Ashlee called me yesterday about 2:00 PM, and said, "I have some good news for you".  I knew when she said it that the power was on, and it definitely was good news!  Thank you to everyone for your prayers, kind words, and supportive emails, it truly has made these last two weeks less agonizing.  The first thing I did when I got home was to turn on and off light switches to see if they actually worked, then I open and shut the frig to see if it was actually cold...all of these novel things. 

Tonight it is back to sewing for me.  While without power I was able to get my next quilt all cut, and ready to piece, as well as reorganizing my sewing space - always a good way to begin a new project(s). 

I think everyone is going to really love the quilts that we will be churning out over the next 4 weeks.  Two quilts for Robert Kaufman, and two quilts for Andover.  The Lizzy Dish quilt is called House Wares - you guys are going to love it!

Here are a few more photos of the damage from Hurricane Ike - the citizens of Galveston were allowed to return to the island on Wednesday - it's hard to imagine that all of this destruction took place two weeks ago today.   Many people throughout the city STILL do not have power.

    

Hey Sugar!

  Hello friends,

Let's play good news, bad news...

1. Bad news: No power still - maybe today...if not, I'm moving into my friends' apartment - he has power...I've got to start sewing again

Good news: Friday I heard from my friends at Andover about the release of Lizzy Dish, and Hey Sugar by Cosmo Cricket for market samples.  I know that everyone is excited about Lizzy Dish, but I'm not sure if you are aware of Hey Sugar.  I have to tell how much I LOVE THIS PRODUCT LINE.  Ever since Eric & Julie started turning their scrapbooking paper into fabric, this is THE ONE I have been waiting for!   Eric said that there are three color ways - I cannot wait to see it "in person". 

These images are from the paper line, but I'm sure the fabric will be just as fabulous!  The quilt is already planned - the name of the free quilt pattern is called...

Sugar Snap 

 Why Sugar Snap?  Cause the fabric looks so sweet, and it is going to be a snap to make!

Thank you to everyone for your kind messages, and emails in regards to Hurricane Ike, and it's wretched aftermath.

You kindness, and prayers have made it less lonely, and frustrating.  Hopefully next time I'm able to check in, it will be from home, with lots of good news!

Hello from Houston

Hello from Houston!  Thank you everybody for your prayers and kind words.  I've been so touched by your sweet comments, and messages.  Take a look at these photos, the destruction has been incredible; I drive down the roads unable to believe what I am seeing.  The poor people of Galveston, Bolivar Peninsula, and Crystal Beach have lost everything.  I feel a little bit grippy over that fact that I still don't have power, then I give myself a little slap, and count my blessings.  Lizzy says that very little is being covered on the national media about what is happening here, but our problems still exist, and we are all trying to cope the best that we can.  It seems that these kind of crisis bring out the best and worst in people.  I have seen great generosity and kindness, as well as selfish, shocking behavior. 

All in all we are doing our best, and our trying to move forward.  The damage is devastating, and will take years to recover, but Texans are tough, hard working folks,  and Houston is a strong town. 

Hopefully the power will be working again at home, until then I only have limited internet access.  Thank you again for your prayers...I truly was blessed and protected, and I am so thankful!

an update

Hi everyone this is Lizzy

I am just reporting to all of you that my Mom is OK! Hurricane Ike sure did a number on our city though. The damage is great and far spread. Parts of Houston are absolutely demolished. And poor Galveston. Flooding damage in the surrounding counties is a huge problem too. But I hear that Mayor White has done a commendable job with everything. I have been able to get a few phone calls from my Mom, but she is completely without power, let alone internet, and could be for up to a month! Yikes! There are trees covering the power lines.

The only damage that we sustained was our 30ft pine tree in our backyard fell, took down the fence and nicked our neighbors roof. We always new it would come down, it was just a matter of time. When I was little I would watch it from my window, always swaying back and forth. It's a real blessing that it didn't do more damage. There wasn't any structural damage, and there really could have been.

She said that the storm was insane. Something out of a horror movie! She said, "it sounded like there were giant hands trying to rip the roof off of the house." Creep Fest 2008

The pets are reacting. Mickey and Stella are thoroughly enjoying this. Stella because she gets to sleep in my Mom's room, and Mickey because the fence is down he now has an extra long leash that allows him to run from the backyard to the front yard and even into the garage. Pinecone is, however, not so pleased. She is just hiding all day.

My Mom wishes she could sew. She has a lot of work to do before Market. We were trying to invent a little generator for her Bernina. No such luck. Not for this storm any way... Is this why we keep the treadle around? Does it have a 1/4 inch seam allowance?

Yicks...Hurricane Ike!

  Holy cow!  Look at this storm, it's almost as big as Texas, which is HUGE!  Well my little friends all around the world, please say a little pray for us that we won't get washed away.  Friends of mine are under mandatory evacuation, and that is so scary.  This huge monster storm is suppose to come ashore sometime between Friday night, and Saturday morning.  All I want to do is sew, and work on my latest quilt design called Florin...doesn't this storm know that I have important things that I'd rather be doing?  In regards to this storm, I have visions of something of a cross between The Wizard of Oz, and Twister.  Actually I kind of envision myself huddled on the bed with Mickey, Stella and Pine sitting this thing out.

Oh well, I'm off to fill the car with gas, and buy some more dog food before the stores are empty.

Baby Dreamer!

 

Lucky Duck Melissa was able to travel to Killeen, Texas to go see Becky and Baby Alton (who isn't such a baby anymore at 16 months old).  What a dream baby!

In & Out

One quilt in, two quilts out...busy, busy, busy.  Two little quilts are on their way to Las Vegas, and one little quilt has come home.  Jukebox is home from Fons and Porter's store where it has been on display as a sample - it was so exciting to see it again!  The two quilts the on way to Vegas?  Baby, I do!  This is one of my top secrets that I've been dying to share...here's a little peek!

 

Don't you love these pears?  I can't wait till this fabric by Robert Kaufman is released in October, it is too cute!  There are several colors ways, here's a look at two of them. 

The idea behind Baby, I do!  So many Mommy Blogs have spoken of their frustration at wanting quilts for their babies that are not gender specific, not pink or blue, generally not babyish.  Baby, I do! is our solution.  The quilt pattern will be released for Quilt Market in October.  Something totally cool?  Two variations of the pattern in one, just wait, it is going to be a special surprise.
