I found the coolest website/blog today...this is their statement on their website:
"From traditional craft to the craft new wave, Greenjeans is dedicated to representing craft and supporting independent artisans.
Greenjeans offers work by over 60 artisans from around North America and beyond whose work embodies integrity, creativity, and finely honed skill."
They have a shop in Brooklyn, and online shopping.
With having a daughter who supports herself as an artist, along with her artist friends - my whole perspective of supporting artist has changed. Our family as a whole have always been supporters of the arts, and supporters of small businesses. It hits a little closer to home though when my children call and tell me that they will be able to purchase groceries because of a sale of an object, or a generous tip jar at a performance.
Having decided this year that we will make/create our Christmas gifts for each other has been eye opening also. It's interesting, I hear everyone around me discussing what they are buying for whom, how many stores they have been to, how much it cost, who has what on sale...and I sit here quietly thinking about the gifts I will make for my loved one. My worries are...I wonder if they will like this gift, I wonder if I will get everything done on time. The worries are quieter - more internal - less to do with the malls, and tracking shipments that are habitually mis-delivered (nightmarish story with a happy miracle ending).
Greenjeans has a call for entries for a Small Quilt juried competition...here's the entry information http://www.greenjeansbrooklyn.com/pages/exhibitions
