Here it is...the latest quilt and pattern by Cherry House Quilts.  It was such an exciting moment, to see this quilt hung in Holly's beautiful area at Market.  There were so many terrific quilts made exclusively with her fabrics - she must have been so proud! 

It was a really amazing weekend at Market...we met tons of people (lots of famous quilting ones).  More to come I promise.      

Update and a Free-a-BEE

For the I DO pattern, 3 different methods are recommended for creating the circles.  My favorite method, and the one I used is the six-minute circle from Pieced Curves So Simple by Dale Fleming / C&T Publishing.  I originally saw this method years ago on Simply Quilts.  If anyone is interested the demonstration is available online, as well as step by step photos.  Here's a link to the instructions.  It may just be my dyslexic mind not clicking along as it should - but according to the instructions in the book I thought that I needed a freezer paper shape for each circular block.  What I discovered was that I could use the freezer paper circles at least 4 times.  For those unfamiliar with the method, it all may sound a little wack, but if you make the quilt, it will all become very clear. 

HOUSTON FALL QUILT MARKET UPDATE:

Yesterday I dropped off THE QUILT at the beautiful Hilton across the street from the George R. Brown.  I also had to go to the convention center to register (for the very first time!!!).  The place was a ghost town.  The doors to the convention floor were open, and there were workmen everywhere.  A magical transformation is going to take place - without a doubt.  Normally at Quilt Show it's impossible to even cross the street for all of the buses, police cars, cabs, and quilters...but yesterday the street lights were only blinking.  Today will be a different story all together. 

Lizzy and I are going to make our list tonight of our objectives for quilt market...a few are:

• Find a manufacturer for Lizzy's line of fabric.  She's tweaked and polished it to perfection!
• Introduce the world to our cool, contemporary quilt patterns

HOUSTON FALL QUILT MARKET UPDATE:

A bit of a tease

The quilt is done, and will be hand delivered to Holly on Thursday.  I'm so excited, our first trip to market!  It used to make me crazy when I read blogs where they talked about things they wanted to share, but couldn't cause they were saving it for market...well, it seems as if I have joined the ranks of the teasers.   I've been taking pictures of the quilt all afternoon with my Mother and Sister pitching in.  Sunday was suppose to be the real photo shoot, but my little camera died - unfortunately I didn't realize this until it was too late, and Lizzy said that photos were unusable.  My Mom came to the rescue though, she brought me her camera, helped with the photo shoot, and even bought me some French Onion soup at Panera...yum!   

Well, here is the teaser - a peek of the quilt with it's whimsical binding.

Once upon a time...

 

Once upon a time there was a girl named Cherri, who loved quilts.  From the first time she saw one, she was in love.  She would spend many years quilting - for her family, for her friends, and just for the joy of it.  Cherri knew that one day all of her precious children would go away, and that she better have a plan for when that happened.  The plan was to start a quilting business with her daughter Elizabeth, who dreamed of designing fabric for quilters.  So one day in May, Cherry House Quilts was born!  They started tiny, designing and creating quilts - one at a time. 

On a recent Friday, in what Cherri thought must have been a dream, she received an email from the Fairy Godmother of all things fabric/dessert/quilt.  The Fairy Godmother said "would you be interested in making a quilt for me for market?"  Cherri then knew that she must be dreaming...could this be true, was it possible to actually be talking to The Holly of kitty bib fame?  Of course Cherri said yes, she would be honored!  The next thing you know the post office elves delivered a box full of glorious fabric, in delicious colors.  Cherri happily sewed, and sewed for hours, working to create the fairest quilt in all the land. 

What's next in this delightful fairytale?  You will have to stay tuned, but one thing I can tell you is that dreams really do come true...

Long distance mothering

So last Friday Ashlee had a concert in Pocatello, and the girls, plus my Aunt Shirley, and my cousin Tami were able to attend.  It was a great night!  Ashlee played her show, and on one song, Lizzy and Melissa were able to join her, singing 3 part harmony.  It hurt my heart to miss it, but I was happy for Ashlee, and everyone who was there. 

Fast forward to Monday night, and I get a call from Melissa saying that she fell down while rollerskating and really hurt her elbow.  She went to the doctor yesterday to get it x-rayed, and can you believe it - it's broke.  I had to look up on the Internet, what exactly that means "fractured elbow".  It's not good.  She's waiting for a reading from the radiologist on what is actually broke.  She can't get dressed herself, she can't cook for herself, so many things that you take for granted, she can't do for herself.  Lizzy has been taking care of her the best that she can, but what she really needs is her Momma. 

Long distance mothering from 2000 miles away will never be easy.

What's New?

Here's a peek at what's new at Cherry House Quilts, our latest pattern!  Once again the cycle repeats itself, the quilt is done, winging it's way to Lizzy to be photographed, and prepare for publication.  We hope you will love the pattern.  Be prepared to marry your biggest florals, and solids in a surprising way.  The name of this latest offering...i do!

Binding Time

It's binding time...the machine quilting is all done on the new quilt, the binding is made, attached, and I'm down to the hand sewing.  Normally when I'm sewing, or machine quilting I face away from the TV, so I do lots of listening, but during binding time I actually get to watch TV.  Stella does feel that it is her opportunity to hide under the quilt, and steal my thread, scissors, and needle threader.  That's okay though, she's my girl.

DVR is a fabulous thing don't you think?  I have another night of hand sewing, so tonight I think I'm going to watch something with Robert Redford (sigh) what a dream!  Maybe Three Days of the Condor...great movie.  A couple of other great movies I love to sew to are Long Hot Summer (Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward), and Next Stop Wonderland (Hope Davis, Philip Seymour Hoffman).  I'm working on a series of quilts for a book, and I've sewn all of them to Next Stop Wonderland.  I can't hear the music from the movie now without thinking of those quilts.  It's interesting isn't it how sounds, and smells are like a time stamp in our mind.
