Here's an interesting article titled The Threads of our Lives about the history of women and needlework. The article discusses the various reasons we do, what we do...for survival, for support, for show, for sanity...times have changed some of our reasons for the work we do, and some haven't changed at all.
An AIDS quilt panel I made for a co-worker, the article states that this is the modern equivalent of an Album Quilt.
what a great panel and love the quilting you are doing!

What a wonderful quilt. I really enjoyed the article you gave a link for. Women write their histories in thread and needlework creates sociability. I didn't quote it exactly right, but I enjoyed the message and history. Thanks for sharing it.
