HOLY COW! trying to move is really hard! That's probably why I stayed in the same apartment for almost three years... no really. Just so you know... here I am. Alive. I know that I owe you some Red Letter Day, but I have something better.

Look what I got!

I'm working on the quilt for market using Red Letter Day! It's going to be really fun.

I have some sad news. Sad for me anyway. I will not be going to market this spring. I will have just moved so it's going to be the easiest thing for me to just not go. So, please, even though I won't be there, please show my new line a lot of love. If you are a shop make sure that you go place an order because it's going fast. It comes in three color ways:

there are 18 pieces total, and each plays a part in the story of Red Letter Day. I can't wait to show you the quilt! You're gonna flip. In a hypothetical way, unless you have an acrobatic background...

In other news I have taken part in a print exchange with some BYU-I+BYU peeps, and some Utah artists. I will go down to Provo with some friends later this week to do the exchange on Thursday morning. I am really excited to see Amy, the Bartons, and Courtney!!! and also, 26 people did the exchange and all of the prints that were done up here in Idaho are ones that I am happy to receive, so it was already worth it. Lucky me! We've been joking about who will be the dog of the exchange. I'm just hoping it's not me. No really.

other things...still moving to Portland... I might go home for a bit in a week or two after I get all my stuff moved out of this apartment... might go see my favorite band in Paris or Brussels, and I'm still mad at Allen for not having a passport. I owe a few people presents, and as usual I am running behind trying to rap everything up here in Idaho. I'm just one little person! Working on finishing up a new line... and so much more...

I'm a Quilting Machine!

I truly didn't realize how different it is from sewing! But it sure is cool to be done with a quilt so quickly. I had a thought though, what would our ancestors do if they saw a long arm quilting machine? Probably keel over. It would be inconceivable! I have another quilt to do this week. SO MUCH work to do! and all you tricked out acrobat sewers/quilters blow my mind!

My apologies! I said that I would post more Red Letter Day three...er four days ago now. The rest will come soon... But I've been really super busy making plans for my up coming move to....

Portland!

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! I am especially excited to be by trees and water again. Plus I can't wait for the rain+humidity, and the opportunity to garden. That is something that I have never stopped missing. But as far as my decision is concerned, I really just fell in love with the city last year at market. I hear it's a good art city, and it's one of the best for bicycles in the nation. A super bonus: they have one of the nicest airports with the friendliest TSA crew I've ever met, and with traveling a lot it's encouraging. Also, I am just excited to be near an airport again. I can finally start traveling more freely as opposed to the 4 hour bus ride from Rexburg to Salt Lake. Oh yeah! And no sales tax! and another thing! Jessica is going to be in Seattle! Hooray Hooray!

So I will be on my merry way come May 1st. If you are a Portland peep, give me a shout out, because I would love to be friends in real life.

Also, I am working on a couple really cool prints to go in the ol' shoppe specifically for the move. A couple of which involve ol' Billy.

A walk in the woods

Two years ago, Ashlee and I took a trip to Brussels, Belgium. Our days there changed my life! People still make fun of me for how much I talked about it when I got back. Every word out of my mouth was, "In Belgium..." Anyway, the entire trip was such an interesting chain of events. Everything that occured was amazing, and weird. It started by meeting a lady in the Newark airport who invited us to stay at her home with her family in Waterloo, and then meeting the Thain's at church on Sunday. The Thain's invited us to dinner that night, and we went and we ate, and we talked, and we laughed and laughed. Later we went on a walk with them through the King's woods back behind the palace which now houses the Royal Museum for Central Africa. We just took a walk through these woods, and I can't even express how special it was. It was my favorite part of our entire trip. It was real twilighty outside so everything had this purpley pink haze on it, and I had never seen trees like this. I don't know if they were actually different, but there was something about the light, and the walk, and the temperature, that just made the whole thing really magical.

There is something about being in nature, a walk in the woods, or being in a meadow at dusk, star gazing, or wherever it is that you find peace that can take any day, even the best of days, and really elevate it. The walk in the woods that night made a great day, a Red Letter Day.

the ugly duckling

A Red Letter Day is noted in the dictionary as a noun that describes any day, "as pleasantly noteworthy or memorable".

The idea behind the line was that each piece played a part, or told a story in someones' having of a red-letter day. So, in this case the Ugly Duckling is having a Red Letter Day, because he knows not, and cares not about his awkwardness. He is content, and no amount of perfection can change his sweet carefree attitude. He is having a Red Letter Day. Everyday.

and now for something completely different:

I was tagged last week by the super great Tula Pink. I am just a little shrimpy when I stand next to her. Literally, she is really tall! Tula does such great work, and I love how clever she is in everything she creates.

Anyway I am supposed to reveal seven random and honest things about myself... I feel like I've revealed all that I have through this ol' blog... but I'm going to reach for a few more.

1. I love grocery shopping. I'll walk to the store almost every day just to get away for a bit, and be at the store. I would move to the Netherlands for Albertheijns, or any city with a Whole Foods. I love our HEB at home, and Central Market is great. Trader Joe's is a dream, and I always loved going to the Rice Epicurean across town because they were the only peeps that sold See's Candy in Texas. But I also love going into random grocery stores wherever I am traveling. It's always interesting to see local things or staples in community grocery stores. Like when I was in Brooklyn we went into a grocery store and they had kosher cheese blintzes in the freezer section. Not something you see in Rexburg or Houston, and I love that.

2. I love glitter, and I don't mind the mess at all, because it isn't actually a mess. 

3. I am super critical of myself. I either am cracking myself up or hating whatever I do.

4. I like really tiny spaces.

5. I love a lot, and I always have lots of favorites. "oh this is my favorite!" two minutes later, "oh I love this, it's my favorite."

6. I'm a cryer

7. I am an extremely loyal person. Here is an example: When I was but a small child I was reading a series of books by an author who I loved with all my heart. But me always being a visual person had to connect with the cover to even think about reading the book. Anyway. My favorite author had teamed up with my favorite illustrator for nearly all of the books they released. Well I got really into this series, and for whatever reason they released a new one that was done with a different illustrator. I refused to read the book, and refused to continue reading the series until the illustrator was brought back on the project. I think I even wrote the publisher. But I like to think of my brand of loyalty like the character of Jacopo in the Count of Monte Cristo. Edmond saves his life, and then Jacopo vows that he is his man for life, that he will aid him in whatever way he can. So, be good to me, and I'm yours. It's really pretty simple.

home again, and an introduction

I'm home again for a little bit. NYC was fun. I was so pleased all week to stay with James and Valerie. They are literally some of my very favorite people that I have ever known... like if I had to make a list of top peeps in my life, I was with a good portion of the list all week.

I'm busy packing and getting ready for some fast approaching changes, all this week... so, I will be in and out and maybe not as attentive as a good little blog peep should be, and as such I will reward you all week with Red Letter Day previews.

i'm out again

Real quick! Would you believe that all of my Shakespeare prints are gone? I can't. Thanks Leah at More Ways to Waste Time and to Nole at Beautiful Paper, they all disappeared from my little shop. So I think I am going to do a second edition, and also a new one or two... another sonnet, and perhaps the poem "sigh no more" from Much Ado About Nothing. It's just one of my favorites. But I am open to color suggestions for the second edition of the 12th sonnet. Let me know what you are thinking. Maybe some purple because it talks about the violet hour..?

 

I'm off to New York for the week... visit friends, drop off a new line, maybe see a show, make some contacts, eat some good food, nearly freeze to death, you know... usual travel stuff. It will be a really good week, but mostly because my best boys will be there.
