A quilt batting giveaway...could you ask for more? Okay, how about 12 crib size quilt batts...even better right? I'm here to shout from the roof tops how much I LOVE HOBBS FUSIBLE BATTING!!! There are many reasons to love it, and many reasons I use it, but I want you to use it to, I want to you bug the heck out of your LQS, and say "give us the fusible!!!"
Reasons I use it?
- I detest safety pinning a huge quilt
- I'm not a fan of the spray for batting - makes the needle gunky (real word?)
- If I do safety pin, I can NEVER get the back flat, without it puckering
- It works...I swear to you, it works!
- If I quilt it, I use it! All of the quilts from City Quilts that I quilted use Hobbs Fusible!
I believe so much in Hobbs products that I emailed them, and said I wanted to share the fusible love, and how about giving away some batting...kind folks that they are said 'you bet!'.
Here's a little more info from Hobbs: Heirloom® 80/20 Fusible Cotton Blend
Heirloom® Fusible is an iron on batting which is fusible on both sides. Our Fusible 80/20 is made the same way as our Premium 80/20, except we use a fusible resin in the spray bonding process. This resin eliminates the need for pinning or basting, saving quilters’ time and effort. Simply press your quilt from the center to the outer edges. Make sure you keep your iron moving, pressing approximately 3-4 seconds in each area. Once you have covered the entire surface area of your quilt, allow the quilt to cool. You may then begin quilting by hand or machine. Shrinkage of 3-5% and may be quilted up to 4” apart.
Something else that I love...it's made in Texas! There is even a brand now for made in Texas, check it out.
UPDATE: SOME INFO & ANSWERS
- Yes, the fusible washes right away the first time the quilt is laundered, no residue
- Lots of where to purchase questions...I know this product is available @ Hobby Lobby Stores; otherwise your best bet is to google Hobbs Fusible Batting. I did see many online quilt stores that sold the product, if all else fails, have it shipped to you!
- Also, in honor supporting your local quilt stores - request that they carry this fusible batting on hand...let's support our home teams ♥
- Now, I'm not being unkind...but I've about some other brands of fusible batting, and what I heard was less than positive. I've never tried the other brands myself, this is the only brand I swear by.
- Any other questions? If so, leave them in the comments, and I'll answer you here.
So here's the contest...leave me a nice comment, and on 3/31/11 I'll pick 12 lucky winners, forward your names to Hobbs who will ship you a lovely crib size roll of fusible batting...pretty sweet, right! Be sure and check back to see if you've won!
xoxo,
Cherri

I'm a "junior" quilter from Canada and think this new batting is a great way to get a "jump start" at quilting the smarter, faster, easier way! Can I get it in Canada?

oh yeh, I forgot to mention, I live on an island in N.Ont. and have to drive 2.5 hours to the nearest quilt shop! So I plan to stock up on this ingenious product. Why does it take so many years to invent these things out? Like wheels on big suitcases for instance!!

Gosh...I found out this week my niece is pregnant, and of course I will make my first baby quilt for her. What great timing!

I love Hobbs batting! I usually stock up during the Road to California show, but sadly they were not there this year. Disappointed but desperate for some batting, I was forced to try another brand. I've never used fusible and would love to give it go, and crib size is perfect for trying out a new product.

I've never tried fusible batting. I'd be willing to try it with an open mind if they sent me some.

Awesome! There was a newsclip on ABC saying that it was realistically hard to find stuff made in the USA, but this batting fits the bill!

I didn't even realize there was such a thing as fusible batting! I'd love to give it a try :)

hi cherri!
i've once tried the fusible batting - but either my iron didn't work properly, or the roll was too old ~ the batting didn't adhere to the fabric and i had to spray baste it anyway.
so if by chance my name is drawn, i'd happily "donate" my batting to the baltimore headstart program (or to one of the quilters who need a batting for their donation quilts) - i think batting is always needed :)

I would love to not have to pin baste my quilts. This batting sounds great! Thanks for the giveaway!

I used the Hobbs Fusible on the last quilt I made, and I loved it. I was leary at first, but it really really works! Thanks for the chance for some more!

I'd love to try a nice fusible batting!
Posted by: Jessica | March 22, 2011 at 03:10 PM
Why haven't I heard of this until now? Maybe because it isn't available near me. I love this idea. I tend to use a combination of light spray basting and pinning and would love an easier method.

First off ... LOVE the quilt pictured here! Second ... would love to try this batting! I'd never heard of it until now.

I'm fully in love with your quilts, your book AND fusible batting.
Once you go fusible you can't go back.
I remember my first queen quilt I decided to try and quilt it on my machine with straight pins!!!! It looked like a cat had mauled my arms the next day.
Then my co-worker was like "uuuh yeah.. fusible?"

Thank YOU for this post. I now know which batting to use on my next quilt - I just finished up quilt number five and they have all puckered because I pinned them. Without the giveaway this post is a winner for me!

being that i have always wanted to try some fusible batting but haven't yet managed to do so, i will chime in on the giveaway.
cherri, i can't believe you had the gumption to email hobbs and tell them to let you give away some of their stuff.

that's so great that they were willing to donate batting! That definitely makes me want to try their batting out! Thanks for taking the time to ask them!

I have never tried this batting and would love to give it a try. I've heard wonderful things about it but nobody in my area sells it so I haven't had the opportunity to try it.
Posted by: Alisa | March 22, 2011 at 04:10 PM
I too hate pinning a quilt! I use the spray to fuse, but I hate breathing in the fumes.
I'd love to try this batting, and I have two crib-size quilts in the making for my newest granddaughters!
How nice of you to ask the company (and for them to agree) to do this!

I love fusible batting. I have never tried Hobbs but I will be on the look out for it!
Posted by: Laura | March 22, 2011 at 04:14 PM
I always bought Hobbs 80/20 until my local store quit selling it. I would love to try the fusible. While thinking what to write, i realized how much my quilting has expanded since i found your blog when looking for a pattern my 27 & 30 yo daughters would like. I've made City Scapes twice, fell in love with solids, found several great blogs, tried a quilt along, and (via Flickr quilt along discussion) found a e-store that will sell quality cotton in small cuts! That is quite a lot since last November!

Sounds perfect! I'd love to give it a try. Thanks.

I'd love to try fusible batting! I've only used one brand of batting so far, and it's been fine, but I know I need to branch out and gives some others a go. Thanks for the giveaway chance!
