It's all done, my little bouquet of flowers! All right, my self imposed play time is over, time to get back to work.
This little project has caused me to reflect on some ongoing discussions that I've been reading on Flickr, about the difference between traditional, contemporary or modern, and art quilters. In one conversation in particular it seemed there were some sensitive feelings regarding "art" quilters. I think conversations and discussions are good, I think thinking one type of work has more value than another is dangerous territory. It brings to mind conversations about "working moms", and "stay at home moms". I think as women that we need to support each other period. We heap enough negative stuff on ourselves, without our "sisters" adding more. We don't know the motivation behind decisions made, we don't know one another's circumstances...all we know is what we see, and so often that is a window dressing. We need to lift each other up, we need to love one another more! Okay, that's my soap box, I'll go back to quilting now.
Thank you for joining me on little play journey, I've enjoyed your comments, and your reflections about your own fun & relaxing projects. Anyone interested in making one of these? If so, let me know, and I'll provide the instructions.

I love your comments on "sisterhood", too often we as women tear each other down rather than helping and cheering each other on. Keep up the good work.
Your flowers are beautiful.

Wow! That is a gorgeous quilt - I would *love* to see more detailed instructions so I could try to make one myself (I have this big bag of scraps .... :) )
And I couldn't agree more with your comments on women needing to support each other more, rather than getting critical over each others' interests and achievements. Good on you for putting it out in the open.

What a creative quilt and thanks for the soapbox! I never would have considered using a plaid fabric for leaves, but I think it looks great. As in real life, the online communities can be a wealth of support, or a place for people to be ugly. As long as our hands are busy and our minds are thinking creatively, therein lies the value.
I recently found your blog (sorry, I can't remember where the link was) and your work is inspiring.

I work in a field where it is common knowledge that the experienced "eat their young". This is a direct quote I received from an instructor in nursing school. I have seen it to be true. I think it is just like what you were talking about and I simply do not understand...
Lovely quilt. I'd love to see directions to make my own!

Wow Cherri! I know it is just a play quilt, but wow! I love it. and you are right we need to stick up for each other, support each other and cheer each other along!!!

I am new to your site. I love your little quilt. I am not a creater of "art" quilts but I love looking at them and admiring the work of talented artistic quilters. I too have heard criticism about certain venues in quilting and agree that there should be no exclusions. We are all creative in different ways. We should acknowledge and support it all! My rainy day work is embroidery.

Wow, your quilt is gorgeous!
Thanks for your words about sisterhood. Women can be so critical towards each other. Let’s all enjoy life and our talents, no matter what we make and how we do it!

I'd love to do this quilt-a-long with you! I think this would be the perfect project for me to have a go at free motion quilting (Which I haven't had the guts to try yet, I'm a stitch in the ditch girl so far!). Hopefully my lack of an extensive stash won't be a big problem... we'll see what I can work out.
